HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Old Town Redevelopment Overlay District Ordinance
The Planning Commission has received several requests to address some of the
challenges related to redevelopment in older neighborhoods. Most of these
neighborhoods were developed prior to or immediately following World War II,
long before any zoning districts were created. Most, if not all of the lots
within these neighborhoods do not meet Unified Development Code lot and yard
requirements. The Planning Commission Staff has been working with the Zoning
Advisory Committee for the last nine (9) months to address these issues and
develop recommendations.
No recommendations have been made regarding the initial draft of this proposed
Overlay District. We want to obtain public input before proceeding. Please
review this information and provide us with your comments addressed to ccleland@brgov.com.

Outdoor Lighting Ordinance Draft
The Planning Commission has received several requests to evaluate our existing
regulations regarding outdoor lighting especially related to commercial
development. As a result of these requests, the Planning Commission Staff has
been working with the Zoning Advisory Committee for the last 21 months to
develop guidelines for outdoor lighting. The Zoning Advisory Committee has met
on a monthly basis, soliciting input from other communities and lighting experts
to develop recommendations related to this subject.
It is our desire to disseminate the initial draft of the ordinance to as many
interested parties as possible to seek additional input. For this reason, we
have attached an initial draft copy of the Outdoor Lighting Ordinance for public
review and comments. Please review this information and provide us with your
comments addressed to ccleland@brgov.com.
The Zoning Advisory Committee and the Planning Commission Staff have not made a
recommendation regarding the initial draft of this Outdoor Lighting Ordinance.
We want to obtain public input before proceeding. We believe that the public
input is valuable and will serve as a critical component of the process.
