MISSION STATEMENT

To make the City-Parish a more sustainable place by providing the Department of Public Works with progressive planning advice and coordination; spatial research and analysis; and, promotion of environmentally-conscious innovations in infrastructure, building and site design.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  • Manage DPW infrastructure planning efforts to facilitate smart growth.

Assist in the development of DPW policies, procedures and standards as they relate to planning issues,

Coordinate DPW planning efforts with other local, regional, state and federal plans,

Provide guidance and interpretation of planning-related materials,

Develop and update DPW GIS data,

Perform spatial research and analysis and provide mapping services,

Develop, monitor and update a comprehensive transportation plan.

  • Promote environmentally-conscious innovations in infrastructure, building and site design.

Promote and stay abreast of innovations in alternative fuels; in transportation systems, including TDM and ITS; and, in building and site design, including LEED certification,

Seek grants to fund the development of environmentally-conscious DPW projects.

  • Provide the public with information relative to the Division’s mission.
     

SMART GROWTH

A land development pattern characterized by:

  • Compact neighborhoods

  • Bicycle and pedestrian friendly design

  • Transit-oriented development

Development Policy Manual

The Department of Public Works is creating a Development Policy Manual, a document that will describe the development-related processes, procedures and requirements administered by DPW. A draft of the DPM will be posted soon for review and comment.
